Who we are. Hugh Scott Douglas, trading as HD Genealogy & Technology, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ. We are responsible for the personal information described here. Questions or requests: hello@searchspace.uk.
When you write to us through the contact form or by email, we keep your email address, your name if you give it, and your message, so that we can reply and keep a record of the enquiry. Basis: our legitimate interest in answering you, or taking steps at your request before an agreement.
When you register an account, we keep your email address and a scrambled form of your password, so that you can sign in and follow your enquiries. We never see or store your password itself. Basis: you asked us to.
When we write to you about our work (for example, to a solicitor's firm or a probate practice), we use the business email address the firm publishes. Each email carries a link unique to you, so we can see whether it led to a visit or an enquiry. You can tell us at any time to stop writing, and we will. Basis: our legitimate interest in offering our services to businesses.
When you visit the site, it records which page was opened and when, and whether you came by one of our emailed links. It does not record your IP address or browser details. With your consent, given through the cookie banner, HubSpot's cookies also measure visits, such as pages viewed and where visitors came from. If you decline, no HubSpot cookie is set apart from one that remembers your choice. You can change your choice at any time with "Cookie settings" at the foot of any page.
Research into estates. Our work concerns people who have died and the families entitled to their estates. Where that research concerns living people, it is used only to establish entitlement and is never published.
Each acts on our instructions under its own data protection terms. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Write to hello@searchspace.uk and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
